VH is a surprisingly open–world game (especially once you are allowed to travel freely in and out of Hot Spring Town), and most quests can be completed in almost any order. For smooth progression in the game, it's recommended that you complete the first six quests in the order that they are listed in the Adventurer Guild's Request Notebook (it should be the same order as listed above).
Note: As soon as Nanako finishes the Journey Bodyguard quest, the Guild Master will offer you the Bandit's Hideout quest the next time you talk to him. However, you do not need to accept this quest immediately; simply refuse to take on the Bandit's Hideout quest. You can even take other jobs from the notebook (e.g., the Babysitting quest). The Guild Master will continue to offer you the Bandit's Hideout quest between other jobs until you accept it.
