As a remake of an incomplete game, the objective was to provide it with a conclusion while maintaining the core and tone, and as a consequence, the migration of the game to a new engine would be accompanied of additions and adaptations to make it slightly more modern. In the end, many decisions and ideas provided by the community were taken into account to try to re-balance and improve the features and feel of the game and the resulting differences between the original and the remake can be seen in the lists below.
Similarities
- The layout of the UI is identical (for elements that exist in both versions).
- The aspect ratio is the same (158x105).
- The first half of the Act I has the same sequence of events.
- Mechanics of map navigation and world interaction are the same.
- Almost all sound effects from the original game are reused in the remake.
- All original scenes exist in the remake in the same context as well.
- Dialogues and Event messages are mostly preserved (albeit with adjustments).
- All items from the original are present.
- The Room, Cabin, Doghouse, Beach, Shoreline, Rear Beach, Hideout, Forest, Cliff, Swamp, Sewer, Deep Forest and Waterfall areas exist in the same place and with the same connections as the original.
- The Rumia Shop, Workbench and Sleep mechanics are mostly the same.
- Most encounters from the original are preserved (albeit with adjustments).
Changes
- Does not require CardWirth and becomes a standalone game.
- Adds native support to Linux, MacOS and Android.
- The UI was based on the original but designed to be a bit more clean and thematically cohesive.
- Redesigns all icons for items and the menus.
- Doubled the resolution from 632x420 to 1264x840 (including CGs).
- Adds a title screen, settings window with more sensible options and a better save management.
- Adds auto saving, exit saving and save importing/exporting.
- Adds an equipment and a status window with Leah's womb X-ray.
- Adds a map with a quick travel feature and areas of interest.
- Extends the scenes per encounter for most encounters.
- Extends the items with a few new ones.
- Removes Doppelmina.
- Re-balances odds of loot, events and encounters on every region.
- Adds seasonal events (Christmas, Special Celebration, Valentine's and Easter).
- Adds visualization of parasitism and incubation, with an added pregnancy system.
- Adds a companion system to adventure with allies.
- Reworks the battle system (equipment now has unique effects).
- Reworks the mining system to be a mini game.
- Adds new regions, events and encounters that did not exist in the original.
- Reuses all unused CGs from the original in new scenes that fit the game progression.
- And probably does a few other smaller improvements and additions that we missed!
